The paper your cone is made from is not just a manufacturing input — it's a core part of the product experience. In blind taste tests across 10,000+ consumer surveys, paper material consistently ranks as the second most important factor in pre-roll satisfaction, behind only flower quality.

Hemp paper cones burn at approximately 0.7mm per second — the slowest of any standard paper type. This slower burn rate gives consumers a longer session and the perception of better value. Hemp paper produces a light tan ash and has a subtle, slightly sweet flavor profile that complements most cannabis strains.

Rice paper, by contrast, burns at roughly 1.1mm per second — 57% faster than hemp. But speed isn't the story. Rice paper is virtually flavorless and produces white ash. For brands positioning around premium, single-origin flower, rice paper lets the product speak for itself. It's the paper equivalent of a clear wine glass.

Organic certified papers (both hemp and rice variants) carry a 10–15% cost premium but offer two advantages: a compliance shortcut in markets like California that require organic packaging documentation, and a marketing claim that resonates with health-conscious consumers. Our organic hemp papers are USDA certified and come with batch-level documentation.

Bamboo fiber is the newest entrant. It burns at a rate between hemp and rice (approximately 0.9mm/s), produces minimal flavor interference, and carries strong sustainability credentials — bamboo grows 35x faster than trees and requires no pesticides. We've seen 200% year-over-year growth in bamboo cone orders, primarily from brands building sustainability-forward identities.

Our recommendation: stock 2–3 paper types across your product line. Use hemp for your everyday SKUs, rice for your premium tier, and consider bamboo for any sustainability-positioned products.
